Cancer Awareness Program for Senior Citizens

New Delhi. Health Care NGO Aureate Cancer Foundation organized its first program on cancer awareness among the elderly in East Delhi on  7th October. The first of series of programs was opened by MCD councilor Vinod Kumar Binny by inaugural speech on special attention for respected elders.
Medical Oncologist at Dharmshila Hospital Dr Anish Maru discussed about signs, symptoms, causes, and prevention and survival rates with different types of cancer. The program held at East Delhi was attended by more than 150 senior citizens.
Dr Anish Maru told that changes at life style are required to fight cancer. He said that he is seeing rise in cancer incidences among elderly for which more than genes, now obesity & exposure to different chemicals are to be blamed. Cancer can be cause by radiations, viral infections also.
In order to prevent Dr Maru suggested prevention by exercising regularly, controlling weight, avoid packaged food. He said that taking antioxidants helps fight free radical attack which also is helpful in prevention.
Mr. Anurag Gupta of Aureate Cancer Foundation said that risk of cancer is high among elderly because of their long term exposure to risk factors. Awareness program will help them detect signs & symptoms early, ultimately leading to less painful and less costly treatment with better survival. We will keep conducting such programs along with providing free treatment aid to the needy ones.
Councilor Vinod Kumar Binny said that it is our duty & first priority to take care of our elder’s health.
