Cancer Awareness Program for Senior Citizens


New Delhi. Health Care NGO Aureate Cancer Foundation organized its first program on cancer awareness among the elderly in East Delhi on  7th October. The first of series of programs was opened by MCD councilor Vinod Kumar Binny by inaugural speech on special attention for respected elders.
Medical Oncologist at Dharmshila Hospital Dr Anish Maru discussed about signs, symptoms, causes, and prevention and survival rates with different types of cancer. The program held at East Delhi was attended by more than 150 senior citizens.
Dr Anish Maru told that changes at life style are required to fight cancer. He said that he is seeing rise in cancer incidences among elderly for which more than genes, now obesity & exposure to different chemicals are to be blamed. Cancer can be cause by radiations, viral infections also.
In order to prevent Dr Maru suggested prevention by exercising regularly, controlling weight, avoid packaged food. He said that taking antioxidants helps fight free radical attack which also is helpful in prevention.
Mr. Anurag Gupta of Aureate Cancer Foundation said that risk of cancer is high among elderly because of their long term exposure to risk factors. Awareness program will help them detect signs & symptoms early, ultimately leading to less painful and less costly treatment with better survival. We will keep conducting such programs along with providing free treatment aid to the needy ones.
Councilor Vinod Kumar Binny said that it is our duty & first priority to take care of our elder’s health.

PRAYAS’s initiative for skill development and empowerment of youth in Naxal affected areas

New Delhi, PRAYAS, one of India’s leading voluntary organizations for the marginalized children, youth and women, organised a colorful musical evening at ITC Maurya, New Delhi on Sunday, 14th October, 2012. The event coincided with a major promotional corporate partnership to support skill development and empowerment of the Naxalite affected youth in many parts of the country which will be supported by a leading entrepreneur Mr. A.M. Shroff and his group.
Prayas President Mr. Shatrughan Sinha, MP and former Health Minister of India, an outstanding humanist and activist, was joined by the General Secretary of Prayas Mr. Amod K. Kanth and many eminent personalities from the cross-sections incliuding Rajeev Shukla, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, his wife & prominent Media Personality Mrs. Anuradha Pradas and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor and his wife Mrs. Sundanda Tharoor. 
The added charm at the evening was the charity performance rendered by country’s most popular comic artist Mr. Raju Srivastava. They were joined by the most talented Prayas children performers who, together, put up a brilliant presentation.
Prayas, which operates in eight States/UT’s of India accessing nearly 50,000 extremely deprived beneficiaries, imparting them with education, vocational, health, homes, shelter, and economic empowerment related services, which includes a major project which has recently been taken up in the Naxalite affected areas of the country. The effort is to bring about peace, happiness and solidarity converging the government, non government and the corporate.
Mr. Shroff and his colleagues Mr. Sandeep Sharma and Mr. Sanjay Mattoo have expressed their unqualified support to this project and to the Prayas Family.
On this occasion General Secretary of Prayas Mr. Amod K. Kanth said, “We are extremely happy to launch promotional corporate partnership to support skill development and empowerment of the Naxalite affected youths by converting them into self-reliant and productive entities. Through our voluntary organization, Prayas that operates in eight states running over 200 community-based centres for the poor, cutting across the country from Andaman & Nicobar Islands to Arunachal Pradesh, we intend to bring about the change in the lives of the marginalized sections of the society who have little opportunity to become part of the remarkable economic prosperity that this country is witnessing. Our SGSY special project in close collaboration with the local government and Panchayats in the most difficult areas, run by a team of highly professional managers, trainers, community - mobilizers and other staff, is bound to create a real and holistic difference in the communities whom we serve.
